Welcome to first grade. My name is Mrs. Vickie Johnson. This is my thirty-second year teaching first grade at St. Joseph.
I am the oldest of five children. I grew up in Haubstadt and attended Sts. Peter and Paul School and Church. I am a graduate of Gibson Southern High School. I received my B.A. from Indiana University. In 1991, I received my B.S. in Elementary Education from the University of Southern Indiana. I began teaching first grade at St. Joseph later that same year.
My husband, David, and I have been married for 40 years. We reside in Fort Branch. We have a daughter, son-in-law and two grand-dogs. My husband and daughter also earned degrees from I.U. Our son-in-law earned his degrees from Butler University. My interests include traveling (especially to anywhere warm and with a beach), gardening, and watching I.U. basketball and football.
I enjoy the energy, enthusiasm, and curiosity of first graders. My favorite thing about teaching first grade is getting to witness the huge growth the students make in their reading skills. It is very rewarding to watch them become more independent. I hope to instill a love of learning and make every year a successful and positive one.
